About

From humble beginnings, Masjid Aliya created a community of family.

We started off as a small group of working locals in need of a prayer space on Fridays and we began to congregate at the Wingate Hotel. As word spread, the congregation grew until we were renting the conference room with regularity.
The need for more space made itself apparent, and we moved to the Boy Scout of America meeting lodge. Although it was a shared space, we were contented with the larger room and the freedom to meet more often, and more community events were born.

After another move to our current location, 2604 Richmond Highway, we were approached by Mr. Hamid Ali Khan. Mr. Khan told us a story of love and loss, that captivated our hearts and imaginations. Aliya Khan, Mr. Khan’s late wife, had lost her battle with breast cancer many years ago. At the time, Mr. Khan had made a promise: that he would make a masjid in her name, so that she would continue to be rewarded and not be forgotten. It is a testament to his love for her that we have this space.

We once again, (to no one’s surprise) have found ourselves in need of more space. Masjid Aliya continues to give back to the community that supports us in diverse ways. We sponsor a local food bank, a youth group, a Sunday school, Eid prayers, community potlucks and barbecues, and a whole host of additional activities. One of our newest ventures has been inviting local Muslim professionals to speak to parents and students about opportunities and advice on how to advance and join the workforce.

Throughout the journey, we stayed true to our mission and values, to create a safe and inspiring space for our local Muslim population and like minded members of the community.

We honor the late Mr. and Mrs. Khan, and are grateful for the strength and encouragement of everyone who is a part of our family. None of this would be possible without you.
